WHY HEALTH?

IN SHORT:

I want to take the stories I tell from the stage to real life, and from the financial industry to the health industry.

With my experience as an independent artist and love for clear communication, I can make a difference in how people view, strive for, and value their health.

I am ready to innovate and advocate for better health communication and accessibility.

I came out of the womb singing--not crying--and when I was four years old, my parents' first parent-teacher conference came with an unexpected message. The teachers suggested my parents get me in acting or music and teach me to harness that energy outside of the classroom.

Theatre and music always made me feel alive. The most rewarding part of performing for me was being able to fully get inside a character and tell their story.

This became a bigger task as I got older. The roles were more complicated and my daily life included commutes, bills, and "survival jobs" that didn't allow me the space and time to play freely. My friends struggled, too, trying to stay healthy so they could be the blank canvas that a character's story could then be painted on.

In the freelance world, getting and staying healthy (even for a young, healthy person) is a hazy maze, at best. It can be a full-time job in a system that is set up for traditional nine-to-fivers, not independent artists. I watched my friends get creative to keep their health afloat.

In an effort to explore wellness and make this situation easier, I became a Pilates teacher. I offered $5 mat classes for performers. Staying around physically fit people and learning about the body was a wonderful thing, but my real lessons came from dealing with people and their bodies, one-on-one. I saw the positive shift I could make in people's lives and learned that my job was not only to exercise the body, but to exercise the mind and ultimately, to be a cheerleader.

I was lucky enough around this time to be given the opportunity to learn strategic marketing and communications from the best in the financial world. This job became so much more than the "survival" job I had expected it to be, and the skills I have learned are invaluable. I was still storytelling, only this time to help people stay financially sound and comfortable in their businesses.

Today, I am seeking a way to combine my love of communication with my love of health and wellness.
